General Information

In 2006 the Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) started its initiative "GI@School“ to transfer research from GI Science into school education and to gain awareness for this scientific sector. The actions were planned on a national and international level (Portugal, India, Rwanda). In various activities like teacher trainings, project weeks at schools, career planning seminars and high school modules, the ifgi staff and students introduce the interdisciplinary aspects of GI Science. The concepts are linked to teaching at ifgi.

Since 1998, INPE has been regularly organizing teacher trainings dealing with Scholar use of remote sensing data for environmental studies: Uso Escolar do Sensoriamento Remoto para Estudo do Meio Ambiente for teachers from all over Brasil.

INPE and ifgi have planned a one-week workshop that will be divided in two sessions:
  1. Scientific Meeting
Objective: exchange ideas and concepts and discuss about collaboration and joint publications.
    Date: April 25-26, 2011
Target Participants: German and Brazilian Scientists involved in GI Education.

  2. Hands-on Activities Session
    Date: April 27-29, 2011
Objective: get to know GI@School concepts and learn how to transfer results from their research into education and public through GI@School modules.
Target Participants: University Teachers for Higher Education (Earth Observations, Geography, Computer Science).
