Proximity Matrix Creator
A
basic tool to estimate the data spatial variability in an area is the
Spatial Proximity Matrix, also known as Neighborhood Matrix.
The proximity matrix is used to calculate indicators during the
exploratory analysis of spatial data for other analysis in TerraView.
Since the calculation is costly and can be executed with criteria,
TerraView stores the matrices in a local file, allowing the use of them
in different analysis to avoid recalculation, thus achieving efficiency.
IMPORTANTE: For polygons, check the geometry validity before running the Proximity Matrix, otherwise error messages might occur.

This
interface consists of the
following steps:
1. Input
Information:
- Layer Name: Select the
desired Layer.
- Attribute Id: Defines
the attribute that identifies the objects of this layer.

Operation Parameters:
- Build Strategy: Select
one of the available strategies to decide how objects are close to each
other.
- Contiguity: An object
is near to only other ones with shared borders. This characteristic is
highly dependent on objects geometry and the objects geometries
must be without digitalization and building errors.
- Distance: An object
is near another one if their area centroids are at a distance d
specified by the user in the Distance field (enabled when this strategy
is selected).
- Nearest Neighbor: An
object is near on only the n nearest neighbors (considering centroids),
where n is defined by the user (enabled when this strategy is selected).
- Weight: Assign weights
to the found proximities.
- No weight: All
objects are near with the same weight.
3. Output
Information:
- Name: The name of the
local file to be created.
- Format: The format of
the file for save the matrix.
- GAL: Save the matrix
without information of weights.
- GWT: Save the matrix
with information of weights.
- Directory: The local to
save the file.
Click OK and then the matrix will be built
and saved at the local defined.
