The computational platform TerraMA² was planned to fill a gap in our product line-based innovative technology in the field of open source software, with extensive use of geographic library TerraLib, as well as meet a growing demand for applications monitoring, analysis and alert areas such as air quality, water quality, pipelines, tailings dams in the mining, forest fires, landslides and debris-mud flow, floods and droughts.
These applications require platforms that can integrate geographic services and modeling based access real-time data geo-environmental (meteorological, climatic, atmospheric, hydrological, geotechnical, socio-demographic, etc..), available on the connected server the Internet, and which can be read, processed and applied to various uses.
Therefore, the platform TerraMA² is a computational system based on a service architecture, open, which provides the technological infrastructure necessary for the development of operating systems to monitor warnings of environmental risks.

Description
Who operates the platform ?
TerraMA² is intended for presenting an operational system to monitor warnings of environmental risks . The system searches for current data by means of the internet and incorporates them to its database. Comparing risk maps or some defined model, these recent data are analyzed for verification of risks. An alert is then created for each risk situation, and warning notifications are issued for all users.
The warning system operation requires the access to current observation and prediction data, besides the availability of risk maps of the areas observed o mathematical models which define these risks. It also requires two user levels, divided into:
- System Operators: system operators are organizations which monitor any possible occurrence of natural disaster. They are responsible for the configuration and Administration module by means of an interface which enables to define the access to remote data, risk maps, additional plans, analysis, users, and bulletins.
- Warning Clients: warning clients are agents able to execute preventive actions to decrease losses in case of disaster. They are responsible for accessing the warning module by a presentation interface which uses an internet navigator.
Database
All data necessary to operate the system include:
- Dynamic data: informs about the condition of the variables obtained in pre-determined time intervals.
- Static data: contains information about pre-conditions necessary to cause a disaster. The updating of statistic data must be done whenever a pre-condition is changes or the model of disaster occurrence is updated.
- Additional data: other information to assist in the search for risk areas and populations, or equipment vulnerable to the disaster analyzed.
